Unusable signal

Postby klundstrom » Sun Jun 21, 2009 10:15 am

Hi all,

We are troubleshooting a problem in our RV with the bedroom TV showing an unusable signal. We camped in Yuma, hooked up with cable and the Bedroom TV worked fine, except it didn't get all the channels the main TV received. Then we camped in Las Cruces and the bedroom TV showed "unusable signal" while we were hooked up to cable. It received NO channels. We took our RV to our service company in Tucson and both TVs received cable with no problems. We then camped in Elephant Butte, NM and both TVs worked fine. Then we moved on to Santa Fe, NM and the bedroom TV showed "unusable signal." We were hooked up to cable in Santa Fe. We are now in Grand Junction, on Satallite and bedroom TV is still showing "unusable signal." We replaced the Winegard distribution box with no improvement. We are now getting a signal for several seconds and then off and then on again. Any ideas why the bedroom TV works one time and not another?

I am not sure I understand exactly what trouble you are having.

As I understand it,

The Main TV either gets no channels or fewer channels than the bedroom TV. This happens on multiple inputs to the TV. This problem is intermittent as well.

Is this correct?

My bet would be either a problem in the coax going to the bedroom TV (98%), or possibly (02%) the bedroom TV itself. There isn't anything else in common.

Check the F-connectors on both ends of the coax to the bedroom TV. For testing putposes, you could also try running a new piece of coax on the floor back to the bedroom TV and see what happens.

Thanks TVformyRV

re-reading things after your post helped me catch what I was missing. I think you are correct that it is coax related.
