I live just outside downtown Birmingham, AL [zip code 35222]. I am currently using a very cheap indoor set top antenna and I receive most channels. I imagine this is because the majority of the broadcast towers are very close 1.9 to 2.6 miles away, oriented 214 to 216 degrees on top of Red Mountain with few obstructions between us.
However, due to a strange licensing problem, ABC is not broadcast from a local tower.
It is broadcast digitally from two locations outside of the city:
1.
WJSU Channel 40 [actual channel 9 high band VHF] is broadcast from Anniston... 22 miles away, 360m HAAT and broadcast at 15.6 KW, oriented 74 degrees from me
2.
WCFT Channel 33 [UHF] is broadcast from Tuscaloosa... 38 miles away. The tower is 700m HAAT and is broadcast at 300 KW, oriented 266 degrees from me
These are duplicate channels so I only need one. I am able to receive Channel 33 fairly well on nice days if I wheel my set top antenna and TV outside to my front porch, which I sometimes do for college football games; however, it is getting colder and this is obviously not an option in the winter
There is another station, ION TV, broadcast 31 miles away, oriented 35 degrees from me. I don't care about this station much, but since I plan to install a multi-directional antenna I hope to get it too.
There will be 2 TV on the antenna and the cable will run less than 50 ft.

I am leaning toward getting the MS2000/MS2002. My only concern is that because most of my stations are within 2.5 miles that such an antenna might have signal overload.
Also, because I can currently receive Channel 33 with a very cheap set top antenna outside on my porch only a few feet off the ground that perhaps I should get the non-amplified MS1000?
Alternatively, could/should I get a directional antenna and couple it with my existing set top antenna?
