Mount Carry Out Permanent on RV

Postby Bascum » Tue Oct 02, 2012 4:47 pm

I love my Carry Out for multiple vehicles, but am down to one now. I would like to mount it and leave it. Is there any reason this would not work, i.e, weather, wind from vehicle speed, etc.?

IMHO, the best option to "permanently" mount this portable unit would be to use the Winegard Ladder Mount (GM-3000) as seen here:

The nice part is that added flexibility if you do park under a tree you still could remove the unit and relocate it to a clearing in the trees.
Other than this, you would have to fabricate some kind of a mount as Winegard does not make any such option. The direct answer to your question is no, there is no reason not to do this but the ladder rack gives you an additional option.

Thanks for the reply. I use the carry out on our Airstream travel trailer, hence, no ladder. I currently have a polished 2" Dia pole on the tongue, which I can leave or mount unit on roof. These seem to be about my choices. I like the pole because of exactly what you said, can move it easily if obstructed. I know what to do now based on your reply, didn't think it would blow apart, feel better asking, Thanks again, great product!!!

The permanently mounted Mini-Max antenna is the exact same antenna as the Carryout out but with different "feet" used for mounting. So, you are correct that wind across the Carryout is not going to cause any damage. Mount it so the wind does not cause it to sway on the post and you will be fine.

Is is OK to travel down the highway with the portable unit attached 'permanently' to the ladder mount? I've gotten conflicting info at the sales place so have held off purchasing the mount.

Yes, the ladder rack mount was specifically designed to be able to handle that situation. I would just adjust the ladder mount as low as possible so only the dome part is above the roof. This would keep the added height to your coach at a minimum.
