B-Band ConverterI have the carryout satellite and am trying to use it with my Directv receiver. The manual says to make sure the b-band converter has been removed. Can anyone tell me if the converter is on my receiver or on my satellite? Thanks very much.
Re: B-Band ConverterThis is what B-Band converters look like:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-two-DIRECTV-B ... 46082fd879 They are installed to the back of the receiver (HD receivers only) between the Sat in connection and the coax cable from the antenna. At least one of the DirecTV HD receivers, the H23 I believe, have the BBC's built in. The most important thing about getting your receiver working properly with the Carryout is to follow the receiver setup guide found here: http://www.winegard.com/receivers/setupguide.php
Re: B-Band ConverterThanks very much, this is quite helpful. My received is the H25, I will check with Directv to find out if the converter is built in . Thanks again!
Re: B-Band ConverterJaccib,
The B-Band converter is not built in to the H25 but unfortunately the H25 is a SWM-only receiver and isn't compatible with the GM-1518 without additional equipment (SWM-840 kit, roughly $170 + tax/shipping). Honestly, getting a compatible receiver is a better course of resolution than adding the SWM kit. With the SWM kit, you're adding more wiring, more equipment and reducing functionality (the antenna won't be able to toggle).
Re: B-Band Converter
Can you tell me which receivers will be compatible?
Re: B-Band ConverterJaccib,
Any DirecTV receiver but models H25 or HR34. Compatible receivers commonly found today include: D12, R16, H24 or HR24, but if you find a different model that isn't H25 or HR34 it should work provided it is in working condition.
Re: B-Band ConverterI also have a h25 and instead of going with the SWM8 setup , I am considering getting a different receiver for the motorhome. Will I be able to take the access card out of my h25 and put it in on of the others you mentioned ??
Re: B-Band ConverterNo, you will not be able to do that. Each receiver has its own card dedicated to that receiver. The new receiver will have its own card and you will have to activate that receiver as well to use it. If you only use it part time you can suspend service on that receiver where you are not using it.
Re: B-Band ConverterThanks Bill... I really am not familiar with the satellite tv setups. I'm now thinking that it might be reasonable to get an H24 receiver , which should work with my SK-3005 dish. Will this H24 work at my home also, right now I have the h25, I only have 1 receiver, no DVR and one tv.
Also, I see receivers on ebay that say they are "Owned" -- is it better going that route, or should I stick with a leased one. I contacted Directv andf they responded that they would ship me whatever they had in stock, I had no choice of model, so getting from Directv with that policy won't work and I'll have to go elsewhere.... Amazon, ebay or ???
Re: B-Band ConverterYes, the H24 is a good choice. It will work with your home setup and it will work with SK-3005. You will need to go into the receiver setup menu and change the antenna type when you move between the 2 systems but that's easy. You will set it to 01-SWM when in the home and 02-multiswitch when in the RV. Details are available on the Winegard website.
http://www.winegard.com/receivers/setupguide.php If you can't get what you want from DirecTV then buy it on Amazon or where ever you feel comfortable. Solid Signal is another good source. No matter what you read, DirecTV owns all DirecTV receivers and if you terminate service with DirecTV you will be required to return the receiver.
