No video signal

Postby VRA » Mon Oct 01, 2012 2:14 pm

Have a Winegard SK-3005 Slimline antenna mounted on our RV with DirecTV. We cannot setup the DiecTv because there is no video signal coming to the box. The Winegard box shows the antenna is locked to all five satellites. Checked the connections to the antenna, the pre-wired 75 ohm cables, but still cannot get any video signals. We're still missing the B-band converter (which is being shipped to us), but we should have low def channels. What should I check next? TIA.

While waiting for the B-Band converter, reconfigure the receiver for 02: 3LNB 18x20 to only load SD channels into the guide. Then when you receive the B-Band and put it in line, change it back to 04: Slimline 5 for the HD programming.

Still no joy... there is no video signals coming off the slimline at the antenna. Could the LNB's be bad?

If it you TV showing No Video Signal then you do not have the connection between the receiver and the TV configured properly. How is your receiver connected to the TV? Coax, HDMI, etc.? Your antenna appears to be locked onto the correct satellites and it is your receiver setup that is off somewhere. Be sure that you have the proper input selected on your TV as well as there are multiple selections available. TV, CABLE, HDMI, PC and others.

The run from the antenna to the Directv box is 75 ohm coax, the DirecTv box to the TV is HDMi. I've run the setup on both the tv and the DirecTV with no avail. Went up to the roof of the RV to the Slimline antenna and used a Satellite Finder signal finder and measured the output of each of the four coax outputs, all read zero dbm, even though it is locked on all the sat's. Now what?

I seem to have the same symptoms as the original poster.

SK-3005 - controller gets a lock and displays *101 *110 *119 but there is no video signal on either of the cables as they leave the antenna on the roof of the RV. I didn't think this was possible, but I've seen it with my own eyes now.

So was there a resoltuion/solution for the poster's problems?

How can the controller think it has a lock, the dish be pointing in the general correct direction, and no signal on the cables? Help!! Thanks, Russ

I received a very interesting direct email response from Winegard on this problem. I will follow the suggestions and report back here on how it goes with details that may help others in the future. Later - Russ

Finally got the problem resolved. There was nothing wrong with the Winegard antenna or its controller. Turned out that our RV manufacturer had put an known number of splitters in th coax lines to send the signal to the living room, bedroom, and both sides of the garage. I also found a few bad connectors and one bad barrel connector.

If you are getting Directv, their box needs -95dbm of signal strength to close the link. The DTV box sends 18.5 and 13.5Volts to the Winegard antenna. So the solution was to run a dedicated coax line for each tv you plan to hook up.

I have the SK-3005 dish on my RV. I use my receivers from the house when on the road and I have the B-band converters on the coax. My receivers were the H21-200 models. I had the dish installed by an entertainment company that does all kinds of in home theatre systems (they know what they are doing). When they did the install they put HDMI cables, power cord and coax at each location (livingroom and bedroom) so that all I had to do was bring the receivers and the remotes to the RV. I would plug them in with all connections and turn on the dish and everything worked perfect. I didn't have to do any set-up at all.

Now I had one receiver go bad and Directv replaced it with a model H25-700 so I have one H25-700 receiver and one H21-200 receiver. When I connect them in the RV I am now getting a 771A error code (no signal). I have checked the dish and it is on all three satelittes.

What is my problem, if anyone can help me? Why all of a sudden am I supposedly having to do a satelitte set-up when I didn't have to do anything previously? When the new receiver was installed in my home, the installer removed the b-band converters from the coax in the house. I still have the b-band converters in the RV. Thanks for any help that anyone can provide.
