WHEN RUNNING CABLE FROM THE MP1 TO THE DVR,DO I RUN ONE OR TWO CABLES AND WHAT ADVANTAGE TO EITHER. ALSO WILL A SMALL SAT METER WORK ON FINDING SIGNAL?

You would be required to run 2 cables, one to each input. You will not be able to receive any of the DirecTV HDTV programming but all of the SD programming will be available from the 101 satellite.
You will need to make some changes to the recevier setup so that you either Hide HD channels or Show duplicate SD channels in the Preference Options.
You will also need to run through the Repeat Satellite Setup routine and select the 18" round and Multi-switch option for the receiver to work properly with that antenna type.

You bet! Just remember that those signal meters will "squeal" when pointed at ANY satellite. You have to ensure that you are pointed toward the correct satellite using the receivers signal meter.
