Problems with 1518 locking on at cabin

Postby idahodave » Sat Sep 08, 2012 8:31 am

I have set up my carry out at home, making sure it locked and got the Dish receiver correct.
When we go to our cabin, I cannot get it to find any sat's at all.
I have a Dich 2 LNB 500 unit that I can set up and find 110 and 119 with some difficulty, but can find them both with a good signal to view.
When I put the Carryout at the same location, on an elevated post, exactly in the place of the Dish 500 2 LND, the Carryout will not find anything. I can put the 500 back on the post, and it works fine.
We purchased this unit to aid in getting easier set up but it seem not to work.
Can anyone tell me why?
At home i use the 3 lnb Dish antenna on the home. The carryout locks to all 3 also.

Is there a different routine to set to 110-119 less 129? At the cabin we cannot see 129 at all, so that is why we use a 500 2 LNB.
Have tried all summer to get to work. Getting ready to pitch in garbage...

idahodave,

You'll need to go through the proper configuration of the receiver to get everything set up. If you're unable to get signal during the search but the DISH 500 is, you may have partial obstructions and the smaller reflector on the GM-1518 isn't going to perform as well with obstructions like the DISH 500 will as it has a bigger reflector.

I am sorry to hear that you feel that way. No one can fix environmental issues such as you describe. The dome (obviously) has a small reflector than the open faced antenna which you are using. Because of that it should not be surprising that a signal that is already being reduced by natures beauty might reduce the ability of the antenna to lock. If you can get by with 119 only (lots and lots of programming there) you could simply go into the menu of the receiver and click 6-1-1 to get to the main menu. Set the satellite to 119 and the transponder to 11. Plug in the Carryout and allow it to lock onto 119. Unplug the Carryout and perform a check switch. It will find only 119 (no power to make it move) and give you the option to save the check switch with less satellites found. Choose Yes and continue through to completion. You will now be able to watch all of the programming on 119 (assuming that you do actually have a clear view of that satellite).
