RoadTrip MiniMax and DISH will not find satellite or SW64

Postby HolidayRambler76 » Wed Sep 05, 2012 8:39 pm

I just had a RoadTrip MiniMax installed on our Holiday Rambler, and we grabbed our DISH (Model 311K) receiver and took it with us into the RV.

Going through the setup guide provided at

http://www.winegard.com/kbase/upload/re ... s_dish.pdf

we did every step...and I opened the MiniMax Dome before the process and setup the dip switches (4,7 & 8) for DISH (they were set to default DirecTV by Camping World installers.

Anyway, we cleared out the old receiver information, but cannot get anything with the MiniMax!

Help!

I posted screenshots farther down this thread...

I can't see your screen shots or know what they are trying to show but let me give you a couple of suggestions. The first I apologize in advance but it is that you ensure you have the proper coax cable connected to the Sat In connection on the receiver. It can be confusing on a used coach and it's easy to use the wrong one.
Additionally, what is not stated on the page you reference is that BEFORE you power on the antenna you need to go to the dish menu and 6-1-1. Set the satellite to 119 and transponder 11. Now turn on the antenna and allow it to lock. You only have 6 minutes after the antenna locks (and sleeps if it is an in-motion unit) to complete the Check Switch routine so don't wait too long before getting it started. The CS routine can take 3-5 minutes.

Yes, it is the coax coming from the MiniMax. It is the only new, unmarked cable in the cabinet, plus it is the only coax that comes about 8 feet out of the cabinet (Camping World wanted to give me extra length, just in case).

Sending new screenshots...and the antenna never locks on any satellites....

I am wondering if my DISH Receiver (brought into the coach from our home, a Model 311K) works with the MiniMax. Of course the DISH-TV installer who came to our home said yes, take that one into the coach.

Still, so frustrated....

Can someone help?

We are leaving tomorrow on our trip, far from a Camping World or any other services...

The #1 reason we bought this setup before next Spring was for this one long trip before winter storage.

I am not familiar with the 311 so I am confused by the picture you posted. The 311 "should be" a single tuner receiver and yet you posted a picture showing input from sat 1 and input from sat 2 (or similar).
Additionally, the 311 as a connect for satellite in and another that says antenna in. Is there a possibility that you have connected to the wrong input?
Before you ever run the Check Switch routine are you following my earlier instructions and going to Menu 6,1,1 before turning on the antenna? Once you do turn it on, if all is connected correctly (and you are sure the antenna is turning) you should have a green bar and the message "locked sat 119" at the bottom of the screen. There is no point in going forward with the Check Switch if you cannot get this far. If this is an in-motion antenna you will also have to wait 6 minutes (or so) after it locks onto the satellite before you can begin the Check Switch routine.
I am also "assuming" that you have the RV out in the wide open and there is no possibility that the view toward the Southern sky is blocked. Remember that you need to be able to point from your location toward S. CA for depending upon your current location the antenna may be S or SW of your location.

EDIT: Upon reviewing your pictures I see that is must actually be a dual tuner receiver and if so will only work properly if you change it to a "single mode" and ensure that only one coax runs from the Mini-Max to the receiver Sat 1 input. You must also verify that the one cable you use it connected to the Mini-Max coax connection on the roof labled "Main". This set will not work in any other manner.
