TravelNet System

Postby UncleBob » Mon Feb 23, 2009 5:31 pm

I have Verizon for a cellular and quite naturally, I called them about this service.
I got this as a responce:
"Please note that TravelNet is a third party router application. Because of this, you should refer to the manufacturer of this device, which is Winegard, for information. Please refer to the following website:
http://www.winegard.com/travelnet/index.php "
"You will need to purchase the product from an authorized dealer that can be located from the above website. They will need to advise you items, such as cost and setup....More information on our Mobile Broadband service can be found at the following link:
http://b2b.vzw.com/productsservices/wir ... index.html" ...."We hope you find this information helpful. Other troubleshooting tips and helpful product information can be found at http://www.verizonwireless.com/data. It has been a pleasure assisting you today....."
Now between the dots was the speed I could expect and a location map of the broadband coverage ect from a wireless broadband connection but nothing about having the "internet" connection and telephone combined .....so I am at a loss right now. They did provide me with your tech support number in case I had difficulty. The TN# that is mentioned on the Camping World web site and on your web site (VERIZON #TN-2305) means nothing to Verizon. I did call customer service about this a couple of times and sent emails about my questions. As of yet, they have not been able to provide any type of rate / fee structure. Don't mind getting the equipment but certainly don't want to purchase it and find it's either not supported or too expensive for me to use in the areas I travel. The data plan is available and a phone plan is available from Verizon but unless I misunderstood the ad it said "Enjoy wireless mobile broadband internet PLUS a dedicated 'RV Phone' that mimics a home phone with one exception - you can make or receive calls while traveling down the road! "
Is there a point of contact available??
Thanks and sorry for being so long winded.. :)

Good afternoon UncleBob!

Here is the information I received back. Please let me know if I can get you any further information.

The customer will have a 5GB data plan ($59.99 per month) and a Voice Plan...

    - 450 minutes @ $39.99
    - 900 minutes @ $59.99
    - 1350 minutes @ $79.99
    - Unlimited @ $99.99

So, as an example the data plan with a 450 minute voice plan would be $59.99 + $39.99=$99.99 per month.

You can make and receive calls while traveling down the road as a matter of fact this product is used in ambulances connecting to heart monitoring devices this product then communicates with the emergency rooms.

Thank you for your help. So just to make certain I understand correctly, you can "surf" the internet and talk on the phone at the same time, analogous to home DSL and phone service on the same "line".
Thanks every so much.

Perhaps the below info will help, it does not work like DSL.

Sprint
Internet: Yes
Phone: Yes
FAX: NA
Notes: Phone takes precedence over Internet

Verizon
Internet: Yes
Phone: Yes
FAX: Yes*
Notes: Phone takes precedence over Internet

AT&T
Internet: Yes
Phone: Yes
FAX: NA
Notes: Use concurrently.

Rogers/Canada
Internet: Yes
Phone: Yes
FAX: NA
Notes: Use concurrently.

*Phone takes priority over fax, and internet. Manual switch using phone key pad to turn on or turn off fax line. See Verizon Manual for instructions.

Dear Winegard; unlike UncleBob, I'm not the smartest kid in the class ;) ....so please confirm what I understand so far.....

Step #1 - Purchase the TravelNet Hardware from Camping World (or other retailer).

Step #2 - Go to the Cellular Service Provider (AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, etc.) to initate Data and Voice Service.

Like UncleBob, I inquired with my local cellular provider and they never heard of this system; even after I showed them a picture from the Camping World Catalog. They did tell me that if this system uses a SIM Card, they could help me out, otherwise they weren't sure.

Please clarify.....Need to have a "TravelNet for Dummies" type response.

Thanks for your patience and support.

The system does use a SIM card and they should be able to help you. Otherwise you can contact us when the unit is installed and we will help with activation.
