Traveler as a portable

Postby ghutch » Thu Aug 16, 2012 5:06 pm

I would be interested in hearing about anyone who has /is using a Traveler in a portable situation. I want the DirecTV HD, but want the portability in case of trees. Using a slimeline w/3LNB on a tripod now but don't like the time to setup and trying to find the sat. I just thought the Traveler might be adaptable to a portable.

The Trav'ler is not adaptable to any kind of portable configuration that you be familiar with. You can't mount it on a tripod and you can't just take the Trav'ler from the box and set it on the ground without causing issues down the road since moisture would be able to get into the base of the unit causing damage.
The only thing I have been able to figure out that might make the Trav'ler portable would be to mount the Trav'ler to a Winegard Thin Roof Mounting Plate which looks like this http://www.winegard.com/kbase/upload/SKM-008a.pdf You could caulk and screw the Trav'ler to this base and then store this huge antenna setup somewhere when you travel.
