MV3500T and H25 receiver

Postby sadrian » Tue Jul 31, 2012 9:50 pm

I have only one LNB wire coming from the MV3500T antenna. I opened up the satellite and observed the open second coax connection from the LNB. Is there anyway to avoid running a second line in order to make my set up work? Don't really want to start opening up roof inputs to find or fish a second line. My equipment consists of

HR25 receiver
SWM8
Power inserter

With only one wire the receiver only shows finding either the odd or even transponders depending on which way i connect to the SWM8.

I understand no HD programs, but we switched all of our home receivers to HD and the HR25 is the only one small enought to fit in the cabinet in the RV with all of the connection points, etc. As the receiver sets itself up it stops when it can not find both cable inputs. Is there anyway around this? If not my choices become

1 Put a HR24 or HR21 which i do have in the RV in the back bedroom. The SWM8 would then not be required.
2 Find a small footprint SD receiver and pay the additional monthly fees for yet another receiver that will be seldom used
3 Tackle the roof and get a second line from the satellite run into the vehicle.
4 Or any other suggestions?sadrian

Here is the information for the proper SWM setup with the Winegard antennas.
http://www.winegard.com/kbase/upload/2452242.pdf
You must be using the correct power inserter (PI-28 or 29) and the setup shown on page 4.
You will not need to run a 2nd coax into the coach but you will need to run a second coax from the inside of the dome to the SWM8 switch which can be mounted on the roof right beside the dome. From there only one cable will be necessary from there to the interior of the coach.

sadrian,

Honestly, option 2 would be your best bet. You could get a D12 for probably $75 from an online retailer and activate it for $6 or $7 a month. With this, you can run a single line. It's cheaper than the SWM kit by almost $100 and a lot easier to setup as you don't have to wire in all the other equipment.

The first option would work as well. You would just need to reconfigure the receiver as a single tuner using 3LNB18x20 for a dish type and multiswitch for the switch type.

Hey Bill, A huge light went on with your message. I have the SWM8 sitting in the RV cabinet with all the wiring. Never thought of putting it in the sattelite dome. Perfect solution and yes it solves my trying to run another wire into the vehicle. Can't wait to try it this afternoon since we are going away tonight.
And to "Winegard Tech Help" thank you for your input and response.

sadrian,

You'll need to run two wires from the outputs of the MV3500T to the 99/101 inputs on the SWM8 switch.

You will also need a DirecTV PI-28 or PI-29 power inserter and a SWM splitter with proper cabling to set the system up.

Bill, I just reread your note and you state putting the SWM8 outside next to the dome. Is it possible to fit the SWM8 inside the dome or even it does fit is there a possible interference issue putting it there?

To Winegard Tech Help,
One other question. Do I need the splitter on the output of the SWM8 if I am only connecting one receiver?

to Windgard Tech Help,
On the splitter I meant between the power inserter and the receiver. Sorry about the confusion.

sadrian,

With one receiver only you can go right from the power inserter to the receiver.
