H25 directv

Postby RRC10 » Thu Jul 12, 2012 7:54 am

I just upgraded my directv receiver in my motorhome to HD. The receiver they sent me is a H25. I have done the setup just like your book says, and my roadtrip minimax dome will never locate a satellite. I have only one receiver and one tv. The coax from the dome goes straight to the receiver and then I have a HDMI cable going from the receiver to the tv. Someone told me that I needed a converter for this receiver. Can someone verify this. Please help.

Thanks

The H25 and HR34 series of receivers are not compatible with the RV satellite systems as they require the DirecTV SWM technology to operate. There is some additional hardware that you can add to your existing system to make the Mini-Max work with that receiver or you could use a different receiver (my personal recommendation) in the RV. The hardware required to setup your antenna for SWM costs about $170 and can be purchased by calling Winegard Tech. support.
You can see what hardware and setup is required to use SWM here:

I believe Bill made a typo there. The HR24 is compatible, the HR25 is not compatible.

Thanks for the correction. I meant 34 and not 24 and have adjusted my previous post accordingly.

Hi Bill, I have the same problem with the new directv receivers hr-24 & 25. I have purchased a portable slimline s3lnd swm SAT/ANT with a PI-21 power inserter for my RV to operate the receivers in the RV. I want to change my mounted rv. sk3005 Sat/traveler 5lnb to the new swm system. I saw your last post on how to do this with adding the swm8 multiswitch and a PI-28 or 29 power inserter to change the sk3005 to swim. My question can I use a A/B switch using only the PI-28 power inserter for both SWM systems so that I can toggle between the portable SWM & mounted sk3005 SWM. Or do I have to use both the PI-21 and the PI-28 power inserter to each SAT/ANT. also can I mount the SWM8 multiswitch just a few feet from the sk3005 SAT/ANT. The instructions shows that the SWM8 has to placed 40ft. from the SAT/ANT. My motor home is only 30ft. long and the sk3005 is mounted almost in the middle of the RV roof with only about 10-15 ft. on each side to mount the SWM8. Hope to hear from you soon. Norm.

nflorez,

I would think using an A/B switch would be OK but will let you know that we have not tested the PI-21 with the SWM8 setup, so functionality is not guaranteed. You may want to check with DirecTV to see if the PI-28 or PI-29 would work with your portable antenna.

The SWM8 needs to be within 40 feet of the antenna so you can mount it right off the antenna.

I think he meant to say that functionality is NOT guaranteed.

Bill is correct. Functionality is not guaranteed with the PI-21.

Thanks for the info on the A/B switch to work with both SAT/ANT. and the feet dist. from the swm8 to sat/ant. I will make contact with directv to see if the PI-28 power inserter will work with the portable SWM sl3 SLIMLINE sat/ant. Thanks again. Norm.
