SK3005 and H25 and HR24 Receivers

Postby BethT46 » Thu Jul 12, 2012 2:08 pm

I have an SK3005 dish installed on my mh and have been using a DirecTV D11 receiver. I just upgraded my home DTV to HD and now have an H25 and HR24 receivers. The HR24 receiver has a P121R1-03 Power Inserter attached inline.
I have read the Winegard Guide for Using DirecTV SWM Technology and the Mobile DirecTV information, and am still confused. I plan to move one of the receivers to the mh tomorrow and am trying to anticipate what additional equipment I might need to get the system to work properly.
If I move the HR-24, do I have to use a different Power Inserter (ie, PI-28 or PI29)?
If I move the H-25, do I need to have a SWM8 to get it to work?
Can I buy parts(if I need parts) locally at Radio Shack or Camping World?

The HR24 can be used with your SK3005 with only a slight modification required (you will need to add 2 B-Band Converters (BBC), one to each satellite input on the receiver. You then connect the 2 coax coming from the SK3005 to each of the inputs on the receiver. Now, deploy the SK3005 and run through the Repeat Satellite Setup routine. You will want to change the Dish Type to 04-Slimline-5 and change the switch type to Multiswitch before continuing all the way through the setup to the end. From this point everything should work just fine.
If you use the little H25 then yes, you will have to add the SWM8 switch on the roof and the pl28/29 power inserter inside the coach. If you are going to use both then you must also use the SWM8, Pl28/29 and the special splitter or an additional cable from the SWM2 port from the SWM8 switch on the roof to the second receiver.

Thanks Bill.....so 2 B-Band Converters......are they all the same? Camping World sells one that is advertised for use with the H20 and HR20. Will it work on the HR24? Only one coax is hooked to the HR24 in the house installation...but I need to connect both in the RV with two B-Band Converters?
Again, my question about the power inserter......can I use the P121R1-03 that is currently connected to the HR24 in the house, or do I use PI-28 or PI-29 that are part of the SWM kit parts.....or does it matter.
Where does the power inserter go in the hookup with respect to the B-Band Converters and the receiver?

If you go with my setup you will not be using a power inserter or any SWM switch. Just run 2 cables from the Trav'ler to the 2 BBC's and then to the 2 receiver inputs. Running the Repeat Satellite Setup is then required.
The B-Band converters are all the same and the one on the CW site is the correct one. If you can find one at a local DTV dealer you should pay about $15 each or you can call DirecTV and tell them that you are going to need 2 in order to use the receiver with an "alternate" antenna which is does not have the SWM option and they should send you 2 of them for nothing.

Thanks again Bill.
I'm going to use only one receiver in the RV, and the HR24 seems to be the easiest to use since the only additional equipment I need is the B-Band converter. I picked one up at Camping World yesterday so that I have it for a trip starting tomorrow. I'll get in touch with DirecTV and ask them to send me the free one. I'll install it today and hope everything works.

Remember that you need 2 - BBC's to receive HD on both tuners or you can set the receiver to be a single tuner DVR until you get the second one. I tried using only one awhile back and we never could keep things working properly so ended up waiting until I had a second one.

Yes, I spent a good two hours today trying to get it to accept the one tuner selection, with no success. So, it's back to Camping World to get a second BBC so that I can connect both cables to see if that works. If I had just followed your instructions the first time.....!

Don't you hate it when that happens! The 2nd BBC should get you going!

You help me out on changing the sk3005 5lnb to the SWM8 using a PI-29 power inserter. I was thinking of hooking a off air multidirection ant. to the off air swm8 switch. then a diplexer at each receiver. I also wanted to use a A/B switch so that I can use a portable SWM3 SAT/ANT. with the use of the A/B switch for both SAT/ANT . Question can I still use the Winegard Video Distribution Center box Model VS5312A with the A/B switch from both SAT/ANT to the video Dist. box Sat/ so that I could still hook up the off air ant and outside rv. cable line to the rear of the video box. without using the swm4splitter. If not, then can I just use another A/B switch for the outside off air ant & cable line going to the off air diplexer on the SWM8 multiswitch. and as before have a diplexer at each receiver. information on the swm8 multiswitch is that the diplexer on the swm8 does not work that well due to mixup of sat/off air signal crossover interuptions. Norm.
