Carryout ?

Postby clemdog » Fri Feb 20, 2009 9:47 am

Hi - Just wondering if pricing on this is known yet? Also - How will it compare to the VuQube in regards to features (and of course price?) I'm in the market for a portable DirecTV solution and am pretty much ready to buy the VuQube but am curious if this Winegard Carryout might be worth waiting for?

Thanks!

Winegard's MSRP for the Carryout is $899.00. You will find dealers above and below that price.

The Carryout is a fully automatic system. All you will need to do is set it in an open area and plug it into the receiver and power.

The Carryout does the rest.

Thanks for the fast reply.

So the Carryout needs power as well as a coax connection...correct? Is the power needed only for the satalite search or is it required at all times the unit is in use?

Any more specific ETA other than April 2009?

I sound anxious don't I? :D

Thanks again!

Since the Carryout will automatically move from satellite to satellite when you change channels on the receiver. You will want the power while you are watching satellite television.

However, if power is a concern, you can unplug it and it will stay on the signal. You will just have to plug it back in to move to a different satellite.

I can't give you a better date for the Carryout being in stores. I can say that April is fairly conservative and I can give you a much better idea if you want to check back in a week or two.

Power is likely not an issue... Don't the SD channels all come from one DirecTV satellite anyway?

Any idea if any specific DirecTV receivers are required or recommended for use with this unit?

Again...I really appreciate all your help and info. Need a beta tester?

We recommend DIRECTV's current standard receiver but nearly all will work.

I would avoid the legacy (extremely old) recievers.

I have HD DVR's currently in my home set up. If I was to bring one of these into the trailer when I go on the road this DirecTV box would work? I know that VuQube says a HD DVR won't work with their system... That would be a big plus for me.

The receiver will work but you can not get HD programming from DIRECTV using a domed satellite system.

DIRECTV uses a different type of LNB for their HD channels that will not work for their standard programming. In order to get the HD channels you would need to have a Slimline style (home) dish that you could take with you.

Our TRAV'LER SK-3005 is one such system.

No one has a dome that will get DIRECTV HD.

I do understand rhat I wouldn't get HD from the Carryout but as long as my existing DirecTV HD DVR is compatable with the Carryout I could playback HD programs on the road that I've already recorded at home...am i correct?

The ability to use a HD DVR with the Carryout might just be the thing that makes me sit tight and wait for it to arrive in stores.

The Carryout will work with a DIRCTV HD DVR Recevier.

However, you will need to set the receiver to the 3 satellite oval setting. The Carryout will only toggle between 101 and 119 for one of the tuners. The other tuner will have to watch the same satellite as the primary tuner.
