Eagle Aspen ROTR100 and AP-8700

Postby Niles508 » Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:51 am

:?: I know there has been one question in this forum re: the Winegard AP-8700 preamplifier and its compatibility with the Eagle Aspen ROTR100 antenna rotator. But, I still need clarification. I am not familiar with antennas, rotators, etc. so I am trying to figure this stuff out.

Winegard had responded to the previous question about the ROTR100 with this answer: " Using the Eagle Aspen ROTR 100 rotor control to power the rotor and the AP-8700 your splitter has to be AC/DC passive on the one leg that the rotor control is hooked to."

I am unclear as to where this splitter is to be installed. The diagram for the ROTR 100 installation shows the main coax downlead directly connecting the ROTR100 rotator and the rotator controller. The DC output from the controller is transmitted to the rotator, and then from the rotator, the DC output continues on to the preamp. (Then the preamp connects to the antenna.) Where is an AC/DC splitter to be installed? There is no mention of any splitter required in the set-up shown by Eagle Aspen. I am confused.

Also, I assume that the AC adapter and power injector that accompany the AP8700 are NOT required when using the Eagle Aspen ROTR100 controller as the power supply. Is this correct?

Good morning Niles508 -

Under normal conditions the Rotor Control powers the rotor and the AP-8700, you do not need a splitter and you will not use the power supply that comes with the AP-8700. The diagram for the ROTR 100 rotator is correct. Sorry for any confusion.
