No 119 signal.

Postby beliveauj » Sat May 19, 2012 2:58 pm

I just switched from the Dish SK1000 to the SK3005.With the 1000 my signals were great 85 on 119.With the 3005 it can't find the 119.Whats up with that?Sure got me confused.

The good news is that you should not need 119 to watch DirecTV. All of the programming is coming from 99, 101 and 103. What kind of receiver are you using? On the front of the Winegard controller does it show *101 *110 *119 (are all 3 * there)?

Remember that where you see the antenna pointed is not where the 119 satellite is located. It sounds like the signal coming from 119 is blocked. You would need to be looking about 10 - 15 degrees to the right of where the antenna is currently pointed. You don't "need" 119 but if 119 cannot be found the antenna is likely not skewed properly and you may not have the best reception on the 99 and 103 satellites for HD.
Do you have the B-Band Converters installed between the coax connection and the receiver? Have you done the "Repeat Satellite Setup" routine and set the antenna type to Slimline 5 and the switch type to Multiswitch?
What kinds of signal strength numbers are you seeing on 99, 101 and 103? Ignore the satellites that end with (s) as in 99(s) as these signals are spot beamed and may or may not show any numbers at all.

Ok i do have a Direct TV Slimline Dish with the SWN on a pole mount.Got all 90's on signal. Now with the SK3005 on the roof of my fifth wheel (right above the pole mounted dish)my signals are in the 50's to the 60's.Don't think you can peak the 3005.Now wish i would have stayed with Dish Network and my SK1000.

Did you run through a complete "Repeat Satellite Setup" routine? You MUST change the antenna type to Slimline 5 and Multiswitch and you MUST install the B-Band converters if you want to watch HD programming. The other option would be to install a SWM setup to work with your current SWM setup but this is likely an unnecessary expenditure.

Unless you get very lucky, a DTV installer will not know anything about the Trav'ler and you need to find out why the Trav'ler is not showing the 119 satellite. If the view to the 119 is blocked the antenna is likely not skewed properly which is leading to the lower signal strength numbers.

Jim,

Based on some of your previous posts here, did you convert an SK-1000 to an SK-3005 by changing the reflector and LNB/feed arm assembly?
