Elevation Angle of HD7697P and HD7698P

Postby jpc » Wed May 16, 2012 9:35 am

I am trying to decide whether to purchase a HD7697P or a HD7698P. The antenna needs to "look up" as there is a ridge about 200 feet above me (and about 1/4 mile away). Do you have data on the elevation performance of these two antennas?

I live only about 8 miles from the transmitting antennas which are located at about 7600 feet. I live at 4500 feet. In addition to the close ridge, there is a 6000 foot ridge about halfway between my house and the transmitting antennas.

I am trying to pick up the following physical channels: 7, 10, 13, 21, 24, 28. I am hopeful that with an improved antenna that I will be able to get all channels as I currently am able to receive 10 and 13 consistently and 7 and 24 inconsistently with a roof mounted antenna.

My zip code is 83716.

Thank you.

Good afternoon JPC,

TV signals are broadcast cast in a horizontal format and tilting the elevation angle is meaningless for television receiving antennas. Located on the "shadow" side of a ridge, the antenna however it is designed must depend upon reflected signal for reception. That is the only way the antenna receives any signal at all in this location.

The higher the antenna and the more open the location of the antenna, the better chance you will have to receive a reflected signal. Try to find a nearby hill and relocate the antenna to a higher point if possible.

What kind of antenna do you presently have? Any long cable runs, amps or splitters in the path? Have you checked with TVFOOL.com with your exact address to see how that database treats your close-in mountain ridges?
