HD Radio

Postby antenna_boy » Wed May 16, 2012 6:39 am

Got a HD radio tuner and a T-shaped wire antenna. Antenna attaches to tuner with a coax cable connector.

Listen to WLKK 107.7 FM/HD-2. Inside the building this station comes in about 50% of the time. HD is different from regular radio. You either get the signal or ya don't. This station goes off and on.

Move tuner, speakers, and T-shaped wire antenna to a screened porch. WLKK 107.7 FM/HD-2 comes in perfectly 100% of the time.

Want to mount a antenna to a wood picnic table in the screened porch. There is 4 foot vertical height available and 8 foot diameter horizontal space available. Would like to receive radio stations from all directions. Would like to listen to other stations besides the one listed above. What antenna would you recommend? What is best type of wire to use? Coaxial? There will be about 24 feet of wire from tuner to antenna. Do I need a amplifier? Please specify all parts needed.

Thanks for the help.

Good morning antenna_boy,

The best omni directional FM antenna Winegard has to offer you would be the HD-6010. Use a high quality RG-6/U coax cable from the antenna to your tuner. The higher you can install the antenna the better your reception will be.

How should I mount the HD-6010 antenna to a 48 inch diameter round wood picnic table?
Would this work?
SW-0010 TRIPOD MOUNT
3 foot heavy-duty galvanized steel tripod mount.

I have about 4 feet clearance from the top of the table. Do I need to purchase any additional pipe? What type? diameter?

The SW-0010 tripod will require an additional 1½” pipe what ever length is required to reach the height you need in your patio to mount the antenna on. An other option would be to use a short piece of 1½’’ pipe and mount one end to one of your roof rafters. The pipe would hang down the length you require and attach the HD-6010 antenna to the pipe.
