MS 2002 VHF Failure - 3rd Time

Postby llwsco » Sun Apr 15, 2012 8:22 pm

Hello Tech Support,

Very sad today. I have had three MS 2002 fail on the VHF side in less than 3 years. Two purchased and one sent from Winegard as a replacement. Always the same scenario. Antenna works fine for months and then fails from TV off one day to TV on the next. Most recent one purchased 9/7/11. Am I just unlucky? Any ideas? Do you want them back for failure analysis? Can you suggest a different antenna? Need to have omni directional due to the local station tower locations (81501). Any help appreciated. Previous failure email correspondence below.

Thanks

MS2000 Lost VHF Channels Overnight

Hi,

This past week I lost the only two VHF channels in our viewing area (81501) which I had previously received with a very strong signal with the antenna mounted on cast iron waste stack at least 35 ft up with all the proper grounding. All UHF channels continue to come in strong. I have tested the antenna on digital tvs in two different homes with neither 8.1 or 11.1 getting a signal from antenna. I have been totally satisfied with performance with the Winegard antenna up to this point but I see another post (Lost signal Overnight on 3 stations using MS-2000) had the same problem. I am beyond the 90 day warranty with the antenna purchased in Jan 2010. My questions are: are there any user serviceable parts in this antenna, ie: amplifier board and is it worth it to replace; if I do replace it is there possibly anything in an installation that would cause the amplifier board to fail; and if not is this a common problem with Winegard MS2000 antennas?

Thanksllwsco

Good morning llwsco -

The loss of VHF signals is not a common problem. There are no user serviceable parts on the amplifier board mounted in the antenna head. Please send a copy of your receipt for the MS-2000 to Winegard either by email (warranty@winegard.com) or by fax 319-754-0715 and Winegard will issue you an RMA number to use to return the MS-2000 under for repair or replacement.winegard

Good morning llwsco -

What you are experiencing is not normal. My recommendation would be to call our support line and ask to speak directly with Hans Rabong. Discuss your situation with Hans and the problems you have been having. He is our definitive expert on odd over-the-air situations like this and will have some ideas on what could be happening.

You can reach our tech support by calling 800-788-4417.
