HDP 269 no current ?

Postby balm » Tue Mar 27, 2012 7:23 am

I bought brand new HDP 269 preamp last Ocotber, used it for maybe 1 week, then disconnected it during the winter.

I reconnected it this week, and it seems to not be running, none of the channels improve when connected now. The strong ones of course are still good, but the weak and moderate ones didnt change in strength.

The loaded voltage and OCV appear to be the same, 17.38 V, and I cant measure any current (or very minimal =.002 mA) going to the amp

Do you think my amp stopped drawing current, and stopped working, if so what can I do about it ?

thanks

Good morning balm,

It very unlikely the HDP-269 quit working just because you put it away. It sounds like we possibly have a bad DC power connection some where in the system. Please view our video on how to troubleshoot a Winegard Power Supply at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNPb1XNB ... ature=plcp. This video will show you the proper voltages you should have at each location in your system.

excellent, thank you Winegard

that is basically the way I tested, I redid this test, and I get 14.21 volts after the power injector, which I believe is correct.

...however, I went a step further, I reused the voltmeter today, this time to measure the current by placing the voltmeter leads "in line", after the power injector, I jumpered 2 pieces of coaxial together (on the F-connector - ground), and placed one voltmeter lead on the center conductor of one of the coaxial pieces, and the other lead on the other piece of coaxial...I measured about 0.045 A (45 mA), DC current. I did this test with the coaxial connected to the amplifier OUTPUT terminal.

Does this DC current measurement (45 mA) makes sense, is it correct or according to specs ?

Thank you.

I read specs showing current draw of 60 mA...depending on the version of the HDP 269,

anyone have any idea what the correct current draw is, WITHOUT antenna connected ?

The HDP-269 should draw approximately 45-60mA. So you should be good.

OK, thank Winegard

Why the range, does it draw more when connected to antenna, or is it just that it depends on the individual unit/model...?

thanks

The range is due to the accuracy of the meters used in testing and the variance of the transistors used.
