Is Omnidirectional an option for me?

Postby majer » Wed Feb 29, 2012 11:22 am

Hello,

I am having a hard time choosing a HDTV antenna. I will have 4 televisions and a Moxi PVR/DVR. Using the selection from Antenna Geoselector is not an options since I could not use a antenna rotator as it states is required for my location 33762. I will have multiple sources which could conflict with the use of a rotator.

Can I use a Omni directionsal antenna for my application and what would be the best anntenna / amplifier for my installation. By the way, I will be installing the antenna in the attic at about 25ft from the ground and the roof is a standard asphalt shingle.

Thanks,

Majer

The best antenna for you would be the Winegard MS-2000 or MS-2002 omni directional antenna. When installing a TV antenna in an attic with asphalt shingles you reduce your signal strength by 50% or more. Depending on how strong of a TV signal you will receive being approximately 26-27 miles from your TV stations this could be factor. The MS-2000/2002 is the largest omni directional antenna on the market. An outside installation would be your best choice if possible.

I live in a deed restircted area and no visible antennas is one of the restrictions. If you are concerned about the levels, would it be better to use the MS 1000 and a preamp?

Section 207 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 gives you the right to install, maintain and use any antenna that is less than one meter in diameter. For more information please visit http://www.fcc.gov/guides/over-air-rece ... vices-rule.
