Indoor Antenna Plus cable TV

Postby sagebum » Mon Dec 05, 2011 12:39 am

I don't yet want to pull the plug on my cable provider. Is there a way to hook both the indoor antenna and the feed from the cable signal to my TV. Is there a device that combines both signals so I can plug one lead into my TV. Something tha looks like a splitter but is instead a combiner?

Thanks

Good morning sagebum,

Trying to combine TV signals from an antenna with the TV signals from a cable company onto the same cable is impossible because channels 2-13 are the same frequency both on cable and antenna, so you will wind up with 2 channels on the same frequency. As for the UHF channels from the antenna they will not be able to be combined with the cable because the cable company has those frequencies filled up with their cable channels.

About the only way you can have TV antenna signals and cable signals at a TV set is if the TV set has two separate inputs for cable and antenna, which will allow you to switch inputs internally. With the new TV sets you have to do a channel scan for cable and then do a channel scan for antenna so you need separate inputs otherwise if you use an A/B switch to select between antenna and cable you have to rescan the TV sets channels each time you switch inputs.
