Alternate Carryout Mounting

Postby buckm56 » Sun Oct 16, 2011 10:47 am

I purchased a Carryout planning to use the ladder mount on my trailer, but before I ever used it I traded my trailer for a motorhome. The motorhome unfortunately does not have a ladder and I have been unable to even find one that will fit because of a rear access panel that extends most of the way across the back. I would still like to attach my Carryout in a semi-permenant mount, so that I can leave it mounted unless there are obstacles, then could remove when necessary and locate away from the motorhome.

Has anyone mounted a Carryout without the ladder or have any clever ideas?

I would also like to run coax and power to this location and wondered can I hardwire the 12 volt supply to the RV and keep the portable power unit for when I need to remove and position away from the RV?

Thanks

Buck,

The only Winegard recommended semi-permanent installations are the ladder mount or the tripod.

If you attempt to mount it another way, you could possibly run into issues with moisture entering the dome and damaging the electronics.

I am thinking about mounting with a part of a ladder rack that I have. I have the lower section of a ladder I recieved when a ladder was defective in my previous trailer. I am thinking of removing the steps and using a single vertical section of the ladder. Was wondering if I install that vertical section at two or three points on the back of the RV whether that would provide adequate support for the dome with the ladder mount?

Buck,

It's tough to accurately say what could happen in that scenario.

Winegard does not test products in situations outside of what they are designed for. The ladder mount was designed for ladders that can support several hundred pounds, so it would depend on what the rack you possess is capable of holding.
