Lightning Damage??

Postby OneAVONgal » Mon May 11, 2009 4:06 pm

I just bought a new Winegard HD8200U antenna 6 weeks ago and I think it was hit by lightning today. How can I tell and is there a part I can buy to fix it or will I have to buy a whole new antenna again?

Good morning OneAVONgal -

Often what happens in a lightning strike is that the cartridge board on the antenna is damaged. We have created a video to walk you through the process of testing this cartridge board to see if it has an issue.

The video linked below will instruct you on how to bypass this cartridge board and see if their is any signal coming from the antenna. If you bypass the board and have signal, then you need to order a CB-8269 replacement cartridge board/housing.

Was there damage to your television?

If not, then I highly doubt if your antenna was struck by lightning.

More than likely, one of your phasing lines is touching the reflector of the antenna.
