Old Winegard Sensar III GS-2200 troubleshooting

Postby winegarderic » Fri Sep 30, 2011 1:39 pm

I have an old (5+ years maybe?) gs-2200 paired with a gs-wing. It seems to deliver a pretty good signal regardless of whether the amplifier is plugged in or not. Am guessing that the amplifier is not making any difference, even though the red light does turn on. Also tried connecting the coax cables 'backward's which destroyed the signal with the amplifier plugged in. What steps can i take to identify whether the problem is in the wing or in the amplifier? Which should be replaced?

More details:
Antenna is mounted on roof about 25 above ground.
Coax run is about 55'. RG-6 pure copper all the way.
All stations i want are in the same direction, so no worries about directionality.
Would like to lower antenna about 5' for better spousal acceptance factor, so improving the signal is high priority.

Thanks for your help!

Good morning Eric,

The GS-2200 is powered by either a + DC voltage or an AC voltage depending on the power supply you have. If you have the PS-9370 power supply on your GS-2200 then there should be 18VAC leaving the TO PREAMP connection of the PS-9370 going up the coax cable to the antenna. At the end of the coax cable attached to the antenna you should have the same 18VAC. If you have the PS-1503 or PS-1403 you should have either +15.3 VDC for the PS-1503 or +14.3 VDC leaving the ANT connection of the power injector.

Please visit http://www.winegard.com/videos/index.php and watch the Troubleshooting a Winegard Power Supply video which will show how to check for the power voltages at each location of your system.

I have the ps-9370 power supply correctly connected to the antenna. Your video page doesn't have a power supply troubleshooting video. Thanks for your help.

The video should be the one next to the bottom of the list.
