Turning Trav'lr Off

Postby svtotem » Sat Sep 24, 2011 1:40 pm

I would like to turn off the dish electronics without stowing the dish. I would like to conserve power and reduce heat when the TV is not in use. Hitting Power stows the unit. The manual shows an Emergency Shutdown procedure. Is there any problem (other than the obvious driving off with dish up) with frequent use of the Emergency Shutdown procedure?

That is the same procedure for shutting off the display. Push Power and Select at the same time and the display will go dark and power will be removed from the antenna. It's unlikely that you will even save 1/2 of 1 DC amp in doing this but you will save something and you will be able to sleep better at night.
When you power it back up again just wait until you are ready to stow the dish or the antenna will go through a new search routine before you can watch TV again.

Thanks Bill,
I was thinking of turning it on again when ever I watched TV, but it sounds like the dish stays pointed and I should leave it off until time to stow.

I appreciate the help.

That is correct, the satellite will stay in place until you stow the system for travel.

Bill:

Read these posts as I had the same question when I went out for the first time with the Trav'ler this weekend. Was at a campsite that had full hookups. What happens when I am dry camping?

I can set up everything with my generator on but I cant keep the generator on all the time. In reading this post, I would have the trav'ler find the satellites, then hit power and select. This will power down the box but leave the dish locked on the satellites. But when i go to watch tv, that is hooked up to my invertor, (along with my Dish 211), will I still be able to see all the channels while the trav'ler is powerless?

I guess I should have experimented while out on our trip, but did not know the power/select trick.

Thanks

Yes, once the Trav'ler is up and pointed it will remain that way until you tell it to do otherwise even when you power your generator/inverter up or down.
