I have been using a Dish HD satellite dish on a tripod for tailgating the last several years and picking up adequate signals for all three satellites has really been difficult. I've even had a Dish Network installer come out and look at the set-up and he had a hard time pointing the dish.
I have a Subaru Outback with a Yakima Load Warrior cargo basket on the roof rack. The cargo basket is very sturdy and I was considering mounting a piece of thick peice of plywood to the bottom of it, attaching the ska-004 and ska-008 mounting brackets and installing a sk-1000 in the basket. The basket is large enough per the sk-1000 installation instructions and has the necessary clearances. The set-up should be solid.
I will only use the system 7 to 10 weekends per year and I don't have to drive over 50mph to get to my tailgate spot. I have power available at the tailgate spot and figured I would just run the cables down the side of the car. I would take the system off the car when not in use.
Does anyone think this is a bad idea or do you think it will work? Any suggestions or preceived problems. Thanks in advance for any input.
