MV3500 & DirectTV - can't find signal in Montana

Postby ddobbs » Tue Jun 21, 2011 12:53 pm

I have a MV3500 with a D12-100 Direct TV receiver. When i purchase the RV in Texas we hooked up the receiver and it locked on the signal just fine, while driving the RV back to MT, the last time I used the satellite was in Colorado where it worked just fine, however since I'm back in Montana, it will not find the signal anymore. I've taken the cover off and watched it search - it seems to start at the top (like at 80 degrees and then goes very low, just seems to repeat those motions - but never points to the middle, where I am is about 44 degree's.
All the connections seem tight and it seems to go thru the motions just fine. any ideas.
How long will it run before it quit's trying or times out, I've let it run about 20 minutes before shutting it off.

Good Morning,

With what you describe about the search routine of your satellite, it doing what it is designed to do. You may want to check your receiver set ( #2 dish type and #2 switch type), check the voltage comming from the coax cable to the el box. (12 to 18 volts) and then check the voltage from the el box to the LNB, should also be getting 12 to 18 volts.

Thanks for the feedback. I've changed the receiver setup to use type 2 and 2: multi-switch. While I don't have the cover off right now, it's still not getting signal, but as you say is acting right. How long should I let it search, I've waited up to 15 min's - I'd read somewhere that they should find signal within 10 min's..
Since the elevation here is pretty low (37 degree's) maybe it takes longer?
I'll get the cover off and check the voltages tomorrow - thanks again.

thanks for your input, it ended up being the mini-coax wire from the LNB to the electronic's box, It wasn't getting the 12+ volts, I replaced the coax and everything works great..
