Power Outage

Postby sheltie » Mon Jun 20, 2011 1:33 pm

Sometime over the past week we had a short power outage and it turned off the antenna control for our SK-3005. However, we didn't notice this until several days later. Why didn't we notice it? Because we never lost the TV during that time. The only reason we discovered the control was turned off was because my wife had to look for something in the compartment where the control is located and saw that the blue light was off. How did we continue to receive TV without power to the antenna? There was no degradation in the picture.

The power to the antenna's LNB's is provided by the receiver. The power to point the antenna is provided by your controller. In general there is no need to keep the controller turned on. It does use a tiny bit of power when on so if you wanted to turn it off manually you can press the Power and Select button simultaneously and the display will go dark. The only disadvantage to this is that with no power going to the azimuth motor, if a big wind came up in just the right direction the azimuth could move enough to lose the signal. Should that happen, just turn it back on and it will re-peak.
