GM-1518 Power cord connection problem

Postby Phil,Sally and Candy » Wed Feb 16, 2011 6:39 am

Hello

My name is Phil I am new to the forum.

I purchased a GM-1518 portable satellite antenna last July in Oregon. I am very satisfied with this unit.

Has anyone else had a problem with the power connection at the base of the GM-1518?

Mine has always been hard to connect and disconnect. I do understand the latching device on the plug. It has always been hard to push in until it latches and then hard to unlatch because you have to push in hard to get the latch to disengage. Now the receptacle has broken.

I see that Winegard has improved the unit by adding a security plate to attach a security cable to. Have they improved this 12V connection?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Phil

Thanks for the response.

Would you please tell me how to get the parts needed to update my unit?

You can order that part through our Customer service at 1-800-288-8094. You need to have your proof of purchase or the serial number to order this part. The part number is RP-GM12.

Hi

Unfortunately the new connector is not an upgrade.

Winsgard builds a great unit for the RV user that moves around a lot then puts an item costing only $.08 to make in the only place that requires the user to use it every time they move.

I will replace this connector with an Amphenol connector that will last more than 8 months.

Ditto on what Phil said. I have had many problems with the connector. It is a very poor design for a high cost piece of equipment that requires frequent use when traveling . Calls to tech support for replacement have gone unanswered.
