ms 2002 install questions

Postby jayrod101 » Wed Jan 26, 2011 7:48 pm

So, I purchased a ms 2002, and tested in my house by plugging directly into TV and using a 100' cable to put the antenna in an upstairs bedroom. i was thrilled to get 90+ signal strength on all channels that I was interested in (get 65-85 using rabbit ears). Now, I've run a cable from the attic above that bedroom down to my basement, where it is 3-way split to wall jacks. I hooked up the provided power supply next to the wall jack for the TV I'm using to test, hoping that would be sufficient, but now I only get 0-75 signal strength. If i unplug the power supply, the signal strength drops from 75 to 73 on the one channel in the 70s. I'm guessing i need a pre-amp located in the attic (what model), or to hook up the provided power supply in the attic before the splitter?? my stations are 8-12 miles away, within a 75d angle of each other.

any advice is appreciated. thx

Good morning jayrod101,

If the 3 way splitter is between the MS-2002 antenna and the PS-1403 power injector the 3 way splitter must be AC/DC power passive ONE PORT only. Otherwise if the 3 way splitter is not power passive it will block or short out the DC voltage from the power injector. This will prevent the amplifier in the antenna from powering up and cause you to loose 85% of your signal. If the 3 way splitter is power passive on all 3 ports then the DC voltage will go out the other ports and once again the amplifier will not power up. Your best option if possible is to install the PS-1403 power supply and power injector in the attic ahead of your splitter.

The other option is to find a 3 way splitter that is power passive ONE PORT only and install it between the antenna and your power supply. The power supply MUST be hooked to the POWER PASSIVE PORT of the splitter in order for the DC voltage to pass through the splitter and power the antenna.

I was able to move my power injector into the attic, but that did not improve things much. any other ideas?

Please confirm the other items from the previous message on the details of the power supply and passive splitter. I would recommend calling Hans in technical service if that checks out at 800-788-4417.
