Folding the HD76XX series?

Postby re_nelson » Sat Nov 20, 2010 5:23 pm

If I need to relocate an HD76XX-style antenna (7696 in my case), is there any technique to fold the elements back into the "as shipped" position? Once snapped into place, it appears that they can't be readily unsnapped without possibly breaking the joint.

Good morning re_nelson,

You can fold up the elements but it takes a little patience since the antenna is not designed to be refolded up. To start with on the back half of the antenna where you have the long elements the black plastic block has 4 stops. Most of these elements fold up towards the front of the antenna you will need to push down the front stop and opposite rear stop of the element at the same time and swing the element toward the boom.

Example if the element is on the right side of the boom, you will need to push down the right front and back rear left stop of the plastic block as you swing the element forward toward the boom. For the elements on the left side you will push down the left font and right rear. The elements with the metal clips gently lift up the side of the clip and turn the element in the direction you wish. You may have to push down the clip to make sure it stays locked into place when refolding out the element the next time.

Thanks so much for the very thorough response to my query. Although I don't presently have a need to relocate the HD7696P, it is good to know that the task can be done...with proper care and patience on my part.

The advice is very much appreciated!
