The Carry out GM-1518 - Reception in Northern Canada

Postby gagekim » Fri Oct 15, 2010 10:00 am

I am considering purchasing the Carry Out GM-1518 however I heard that because of the small size of the dish it may not work in northern Canada where I travel frequently in the summer. Has anyone ever succesfully used this unit north of Edmonton Alberta Canada? My Satellite provider is Bell ExpressVu (82 and 91).

We don't recommend using it past the elevation of Edmonton. It may not lock on when past that point

Thanks Winegard-CSCHL. Should I assume from your reply that the GM-1518 works well from Edmonton and that as long as I am within the 24,500 miles from the satelitte I need it will work as long as there are no obstructions in the line of sight? The 24,500 miles is the distance given by the on line satellite finder site.

Its actually going to struggle NORTH of Edmonton... not at a higher elevation. The 'line' of where it will and wont struggle varies across Canada to the point where it might not touch parts of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

However, you are correct that as long as you are in the satellite's foot print and have an unobstructed view, the Carryout should be fine. The trouble is that the footprint doesn't cover the more 'remote' areas of Canada very well.

Thanks Mobiletech. One last question, where do I find the satellite's footprint you refer to, can I get it on line?

I would love to send that to you but for some reason the satellite providers work pretty hard to keep that secret.

Where are you located in the Canada area?
