I bought a new video switch for my rv. Everything works great but the tv ant. power light will come on and go back off. It will not stay on.

Do you have a seperate power supply for your antenna?

If you do this could cause the issue.

Try running the antenna to AUX or Cable in and see if you get the antenna signal. If you do this is most likely your issue. If not, you could have an issue with one of the cables either bringing power to the VS-6412 or the cable to the antenna.

i have to power cable hooked up in the back of the switch and have 12 volts to it. I am getting signal from the ant just the picture gets fuzzy when i turn on the power supply, and the light will not stay on. It will flash on and then go back off instantly.

The power to my vs6412 worked fine until I put a digital TV converter box (Tivax STB-T8) between the antenna lead and the "from TV antenna" port. The power light went out on the 6412. I removed the converter box, directly attached the antenna lead and the vs6412 powers up (power light goes on). I changed out the digital coverter box (same brand) and had the same problem.

Does anyone have an idea of how to correct this and has anyone connected a digital converter box and not had this problem? If so, what is the name of the box.

This is happening because the VS6412 supplies 12V to the amplifier in the antenna head up on the roof. When you insert the converter box between the VS6412 and the antenna, the converter box shorts out the 12V power.

You will need to insert you digital converter box "after" the "from antenna" port on the VS6412. Your converter box will have to take to place of the "VCR" in the VS6412.

In other words the cabling needs to be:

rootop antenna --> "from antenna" (nothing in between antenna and VS6412)
"to VCR" on VS6412 --> digital converter box --> "from VCR" on VS6412.

To watch TV through the digital converter box:
1. Press "Antenna" push button in the VCR selection area.
2. Press "VCR" push button for the TV or TVs you want to watch from the antenna.

This method allows you to use one converter box for all TVs. All TVs will have to watch the same channel which is now selected by the converter box.

Another way would be to insert a converter box between the VS6412 and each TV you want to have digital capability.

I have the same problem. However, it was all working until the other day. Thinking it was a Vs6412 power amplifier problem I also bought a new video switch for my RV everything works but the TV ant. power light will come on and go back off. It will not stay on.
I decided to put the old unit back online with nothing connected and the power light stay on. I re-plugged all connect and I got the same results. I then unplugged the TV antenna lead to the VS-6412 and the power light stayed on. I use an ohm meter to check the antenna wire and it had some resistance. I connected a new cable wire to the VS-6412 with nothing connected and the power light would go off. I also, connect new wire to my GS-2200 antenna and the results were then same. Could you please shed some light on this problem? Thank you for your support in advance.

I was able to get the power amplifier to stay on. In my case it was the cable problem. I think reason it didn't work the first time was because I was using a CATV RG6U 75 OHM 2300 MHZ cable. I switch to RG-59/U coaxial cable to correct the problem. The original cable has a short do to excessive turning the RV GS-2200 antenna. "Problem resolved.”

It was this forum that got me thinking it still could be a cable problem.

I got my problem fixed. I had the ant wire going into the converter first and not into the switch box first. I did this because the cheap box i had did not have analog pass through. When i hooked it up the correct way without the analog pass through my sat. would not work. So to make a long story short i went and bought a good Winegard box and hooked the ant into the video selector box first and then into the Winegard box and life is good now. I was so impressed i went out and bought me a wingman too. I had some very good tech support from Winegard to get this ironed out all because i did not know what i was doing. Thanks Again!!!!!
