I am planing on installing a SK-3005 dish on the roof of my Mobile Suite and in emailing DRV (Double Tree) they have been talking about an old control box and a new control box which they now use, can anyone tell me the differance and what would come with a new SK-3005?

I don't know what DRV may be referring to with respect to old and new, but you can see the SK3005 control box in my video on YouTube . The control box is shown in the video starting at about the 2:00 minute mark. To the best of my knowledge, the Trav'ler has had only one control box since product introduction. What you see in the video is what is in the Trav'ler box today.

My 5th wheel has satelite prep on the roof the wire's that are ran are 2 rg6 coaxial cables 1 phone line and 2 14/16 gauge wires. My question is since at this point I don't see a way to run the control cable thru the roof and to where the control box is going to be at, could I cut the control cable and the phone line and use the phone line and the 21 14/16 gauge wires and then resplice them back together on the other end at the control box? Any thoughts??

The control cable for the SK3005 uses 6 wires. Technically speaking, the 14/16 wires already installed in your roof would work, but the telephone cable would be too small to power the Trav'ler motors. I'm not sure from your posts how many 14/16 wires you have (2 or 21), but if you have 6 or more then it could be done. You would need to make very sure that the connections on the roof are weather proof and mechanically secure. Perphaps the splice should be in a weather-tight junction box?

I'm not an official voice of Winegard speaking, but my concern is that modifying the control cable in that manor could void the warranty. Perhaps Mobile-Tech can chime in and give official guidance.

That will teach me not to look at my computer over a holiday...

TV is right, cutting the control cable will void the warranty. On the plus side, the control does not need to be located anywhere near a television for the unit to work. Once you turn the system on you wont need the control box again until you are ready to travel.

Are there any cabinets that are easier to get to that you could use?

Also, the change in the control unit that DoubleTree seems to be referring to is cosmetic. We are changing the housing for the unit. Basically, we are going to use a different process to form the 'box' that surrounds the electronics, this will not change the function or wires but it will make the unit a bit heavier. 3-4lbs instead of 1-2lbs.

Yeah, in looking at my post I see what you mean I only have 2 14/16 ga wires.

O.k. Mr. Wineguard-Mobiletech glad to see your online I was sure that cutting to control cable would void the warranty but was wondering why DRV (Double Tree) would run a phone cable for sat prep? I know just thought I would ask, and thought there may have been another control box that DRV used from Wineguard.

One other thing does Wineguard have some kind of bracket to be able to mount the control box flush in a wall?

We have a panel mount for the older, lighter version of the control box and have a panel mount in the works for the heavier version.

I answered the previous post pre-coffee and missed something important. It sound like DoubleTree is pre-wiring for one of our domed satellite systems. When we designed the TRAV'LER we needed to switch to a beefier cable and stopped using the phone cable to control the unit.

Did DoubleTree tell you that you are wired for a TRAV'LER or a Winegard?

Double Tree did not say what my unit was prep'd for but did say after a certin ser# they quit using the phone cable. How would I go about getting a panel mount for my control box I think the unit I just purchased from Camping World has the lighter version in it.
