Carry Out with Dish

Postby azandy70 » Thu Jul 22, 2010 1:09 pm

Hello,
New to this forum. Linked off another.
I purchased a carryout for our Eastern Ark Dish Network. I first used another Dish and tripod while camping. I was able to lock the 72 to get 77 and 61.5.
This dish is large and while fully assembled, takes up a lot of room while camping.
This carry out is supposed to be better than the View Cube so I bought it.
Have had nothing but trouble with it. I clear the receiver. plug in the dish, wait for it to locate satellites, do a check switch and nothing. Sometimes I can get 61.5. Never can get 72.7. So I never get 77. Dish network retailer says, well, you get most of the channels anyway. No, I don't get the channels I watch and pay for.
I've been tring to get this for 5 weeks now. I'm exhausted. Don't know what else to do. Winegard support, although did return my call, didn't offer any usefull help.
Our VIP receiver is the one that we use in the house and works fine.
I have the dip switches set properly. Still only can get 61.5.
I bought this primarly for our two week trip that we just got back from. In Montana, I got nothing. Had a great S.E view. Any direction really. Played with it several times to get nothing at all.
When at home I can lock on 110 and 119 real easy. My receiver is activated for eastern ark. So ya, doesn't work.
Hoping someone here can help me. Don't know what else to do. I'm 18 months from being able to switch to Direct TV. Not sure that is the solution either.

Azandy,

I have purchased a model GM 1518 Winegard that is suppose to work with Dish Network, but have rarely gotten it to work correctly. The only times we did get it to work has been when a Winegard Technician is guiding me through the process, but that does not always work either!

Now they are telling me it is the Dish Network reciever model 322 that is causing all the problems and are suggesting I go to another reciever type (211 or 301) that will only work on one TV, if at all.

Dish Network does not help because they say it is not their antenna. Wingard does not seem to be able to make it work and does not want to return my money. This has been going on for 10 months and do not have any hope of making it work yet!

Thanks,

I was going to buy a Carry Out but if those of you who already bought one cannot get someone from
Winegard to help...........I will find a manufacturer who cares about their customers.

Set your switches so that only numbers 2 and 5 are down. Make sure the check switch is cleared out before powering the GM-1518. Once the satellite locks onto 61.5 run the check switch.
Don't use the input 1 and 2 splitter behind the receiver. If you want to use the receiver as a dual tuner then you need to run 2 seperate coax cables from the satellite to inputs 1 and 2 at the back of the receiver. When you power the satellite, make sure you've got Tuner 1 selected in the Point Dish Screen.

I have now tried everything. Different dip configs, clear this, clear that, run cable directly to it, level this and that. I have been able to get 61.5 channels twice since we got this $700.00 1518. Real exciting. Dish network has no interest. Even the local Dish Network dealer uses a different brand.
I have not been able to get any usefull help from Wingard. Nothing works. I can set up a normal dish next to the trailer and have it working in 10 minutes. I bought this so I could have it done in 1 minute and not have to store the large dish and stand.
Of coarse I can't return this POC but will sell it. I'll have it on Craig's list when I get done with our wonderful holiday weekend.
I will use the normal dish I guess. I'll even through in the little tripod waste of money.

I've never been more upset with a purchase and support from the wonderful Amazon store people and Wingard. Guarantee none of their named products will be bought by me again.

If you call our Technical Services department and explain your problem they can help you troubleshoot the system. If we feel the unit may be deffective you will be issued an RMA so you can send the unit in for testing. If the unit is deffective and a "Winegard" issue the unit will be repaired, or replaced. You also have the option to have the unit replaced first then you send the old unit back in return. To do so you would need to give your credit card information. When the old unit arrives it will be tested. If the unit is deffective and a "Winegard issue" then all is solved. If the unit has been abused you will be charged for the new unit.
