Antenna and Installation Questions

Postby geetarz4me » Thu Apr 22, 2010 7:14 pm

I am a newb trying to find an antenna for my attic to receive the major network HD channels in green from my signal analysis (ZIP Code 27613):
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapp ... 46e384564c

I have a two story house with brick on 3 sides, siding on the back. There is a coax cable that runs from the attic to my crawl space where there is a splitter that feeds home run cables to each TV.

From the TV Fool forum I received a recommendation for Winegard HD-7694P antenna and a Winegard HDA-100 booster.

Here are my questions:
Is this the right antenna for my requirements?
    Do I need the booster?
If I need a booster, where should it be installed? As close to the antenna as possible?
How do I determine the best place in the attic to place the antenna? As close as possible to the side where the towers are located, trial and error?
In the signal analysis most of the channels in green are at 152-3 degrees. Then there is 209, 66, and 261 degrees. Do I have to move the antenna to get these channels?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The HD7694P antenna is a directional TV antenna and when pointed to 152 degrees will require you to rotate the antenna if you wish to receive the channels at 66, 209, and 261 degrees. Since all of your TV stations are between 20 to 30 miles around you we would suggest the MS-2000 omni directional antenna which would not require you to rotate the antenna. The MS-2000 antenna has a built in amplifier so you can install the antenna and power supply in your attic. From the power supply you will run a coax cable to the splitter in your crawl space.

The one thing we must remember is that when installing an antenna in the attic we will reduce our signal strength by 50% or more so if at all possible installing the antenna outside will give us better results.
