Directv DVR receiverWe have an RM 9946 sat in our motorhome. Can we upgrade our standard receiver to a Directv standard digital DVR receiver?
Re: Directv DVR receiverIf you run a second cable from the RM-9946 to the receiver it should work but I want to warn you that DVR's were never intended for use in RVs.
The DVR records to a hard drive that doesn't like vibration. If the hard drive is on while you shake it, it could crash.
Re: Directv DVR receiverI don't know about Direct TV DVR receiver (just installed an HD DTV DVR for full-time use last week in my MoHo) However I've been a TIVO user for 12 years. I've never had any issues with any of my TIVO (DRV unit) going from home use to MoHo use in 12 years!
I would think because we use laptops, the hard drive manufactures would have this issue down pat! Just my 2 cents Gordo Sac, Ca.
Re: Directv DVR receiverGood morning Gordobear -
The type of hard drive used in a laptop is different than that used in a typical desktop computer. Unfortunately receivers (and your Tivo) use the same type of hard drive that a desktop computer uses, which is not made to be powered while in-motion. While we have customers that have used a DVR for years with no problems, we have other customers that have burned through a half dozen DVR hard drives in under 2 years. Because of this we must warn our customers of this possibility.
Re: Directv DVR receiverYou will not be able to receive the upgrade if your DIRECTV DVR is not connected to your phone line. To install the upgrade, your receiver must successfully make a call to the servers.
