carryout and dual tuner reciever

So I have the carryout and a directv dual tuner reciever so which spot do I hook up my coax to the reciever? Tuner 1 or tuner 2? Is there a way I can use a splitter and hook up to both? Will I ONLY get part of my channels if I am only hooked to one? And what is the secondary port on the carryout for? Thanks

Good morning mtnmanpop -

You will want to take the coax hooked to the port labeled "primary" on the Carryout to the tuner 1 on your receiver. Then run a second coax from the secondary port on the Carryout to tuner 2 on the receiver.

I'm assuming your receiver is a DVR? This will allow you to watch one show while you record another (on the same satellite).

So is that what the "dual" business is all about? I never understood why there was two hookups, I thought one was for one satelite and vice versa and such. So If I just strickly want to watch one tv, no recording or all that jazz, do I even need to run a second coax for anything or just simply run from tuner one to the primary port? Seems like when they are not both hooked up, it keeps searching for signal on whichever one that is isn't. Thanks

This kind of depends on the receiver. Some are setup to supply multiple televisions from one receiver, others use it for DVR purposes and others as a media switch that you can run both satellite and off-air into. If you are seeing a performance increase with both attached to that receiver than I would continue to use them. I have directv, I get my locals out of Springfield Missouri, my reciver is the HR22-100, Thanks

The HR22-100 is a DVR system. Therefore you use one coax to watch what you want while you use the second coax to record another show as long as they are on the same satellite.

To get the national locals you will need to call DIRECTV and tell them you are in an RV and get a waiver.
