HD7010 and AP 8275 problem

I just installed a HD7010 antenna with an AP8275 pre-amp. The antenna works great but when I attach the power inserter for the pre-amp I lose all signals. It's like there is no antenna connected at all. The antenna cable is running through the pre-amp and the signal I'm receiving is good until I connect the power inserter then no signal. The LED on the power inserter is on and remains solid and bright during the whole time it is connected. Why am I losing signal when the pre-amp is powered on? Why does the antenna work better without the pre-amp powered on? What do I need to do to get the pre-amp working with the power inserter?

How close to the broadcast towers are you?

It sounds like you could be overloading the system when the amplifier is on.

There could be a couple of problems. First of all I suggest that you use a volt meter to check for +15VDC at the end of your coax cable going into the bottom of the AP-8275. The red LED will stay lit if the coax cable has an open but the +15VDC will not reach the AP-8275 to power it up.

You do not say how far you are from your TV station transmitters. If you are less than 30 miles you could actually over amplify your signals making them too strong for the digital tuners to handle.

You might try add a 4 line splitter in series behind the TV set to reduce your signal going into the TV set to see what happens.

I live just west of Homestead, Florida (33030) and used the antenna selector at Antennaweb which indicated that I could use a medium antenna with a pre-amp. Most of the channels I'm trying to receive are 30 miles or more away. However, there is a tower with one channel that is only about 4 miles away. Could this tower with its one channel (6) be overpowering my receiver? If so, is there a filter I can install to mitigate the signal from this tower?
The antenna works without the power attached and stops working when I attach the power. If the pre-amp wasn't getting power, wouldn't there be little or no change in the signal when the power was attached? The pre-amp is near the top of a 40 foot tower and it's difficult to test the voltage up there.

If the antenna works with out the power supply being hooked up and does not with the power supply hooked up then we have an overload situation. This overload situation could be in the amplifier module it self at the top of the tower or we have too much signal for the tuners to handle. This why I suggest that you try placing a 4 way splitter in series with one of your TV sets to see what a reduction in TV signal does.
