Which Winegard antenna to choose

Postby bamill1 » Thu Oct 29, 2009 6:57 pm

I am ready to purchase a Winegard antenna. I am interested in the HD7084P and the HD8200U. Both products appear to be of top quality and may suit my needs. Besides price, what other differences in these two products should I consider? What other information can you provide to help in my decision making process? We are located in Ohio, approximately 55 miles south of Cleveland and 30 miles west of Akron and Canton. The antenna will be mounted with an eave mount on a 2-story home, 7 feet above the roofline.

I look forward to your response!

Good morning bamill1 -

Without getting too technical, the HD8200U is a little bit longer range antenna than the HD7084P. While I believe either one of these antennas will work for you I personally would go with the HD8200U to give myself the best chance at getting the strongest signal possible.

To get technical, each antennas performs slightly better on different channels. You can find the engineering spec sheets here...

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me how to interpret the info from the tech sheets regarding performance for the various channels? Channels in our area are 3,5,8,19,23,25,43,49,55.

You would want higher gain on the channels you are interested in. In your case you have channels across the entire spectrum.

I'll stick with my earlier comments suggesting the HD8200U. I think it would be the best choice in your situation.

I am considering the HD7084P. I just want to know that during the monsoon season, does the range decrease due to heavy rains?

Weather does affect the ability of an antenna to receive television signal. That is another reason we are typically conservative when recommending an antenna and try to move a consumer into an antenna that might be a bit overkill, but will still work in adverse conditions.

The antenna Winegard would suggest for you would be the HD7697P along with an HDP-269 preamplifier if needed. Also the antenna needs to be installed at lest 35-40 above the ground.
