Shaw direct aka Starchoice questions

Postby roy67ss » Mon Oct 12, 2009 1:22 pm

Hi,

I have searched for an answer to my questions but have had no success.

I have a RM-DM61 unit that I have not installed yet. I would like to recieve Shaw direct. If I understand this satellite stuff properly, (unlikely), would this be possible with a linear lnb and a way to adjust for the skew? I believe the skew issue is the main stumbling block for viewing a linear satellite or is there more to it? Would any linear lnb work or would it have to be a Starchoice lnb? I have one of the old round lnbs that the skew was adjusted by rotating the lnb in its holder and there was also a fine tuning of the focal distance. There are also linear lnbs that look very similar to the circular ones and these require the dish to rotate to adjust for skew. There are charts to find out the skew settings and I would need to get up on the roof to do this. I know this would be a pain, but, is it concievable?

Thanks, Roy

This information is out there but Winegard can not suggest that you modify one of our dishes to make it work so I really don't know that much about it.

I know that there are people out there doing just what you are asking for but I don't (nor should I) know anything about it. Talk to your RV dealer or some of the other Shaw users and I am sure that you will find your answer.

Sorry.

Sorry, I thought that Winegard might have a solution for Shaw direct or someone on this forum might. I doubt that any RV dealers I've ever met would have the slightest clue about doing something like this. I realize that most who watch Shaw have it set up on a tripod but I wanted to stay away from that if possible. I also know that Bell would work without any modifications but there is no challenge in that! Besides, their attitude sucks as far as RVing south goes.

I'll keep trying to find out and may just do some experimenting on my own. Are there any problems with me posting results and 'how to' s if I'm successful?

Thanks, Roy

becky000,

You'll need an LNB plus a clone box to update the software on the existing system.

The parts are as follows:

RP-SK73 (LNB) $90 + tax/shipping
MB-SK73 (Clone box with cable) $59.99 + tax/shipping

Several dealers in Canada carry the clone boxes and can update the software for you, so it may be worthwhile to consult a local dealer. If you purchase from us, we will include a prepaid shipping label to return the clone box after you have updated the software.

You can order the parts through our customer service department at 800-288-8094.
