no vhf signal on MS2000

Postby sureyea » Sun Aug 23, 2009 12:57 pm

Purchased MS 2000 in Feb '09. Got VHF channels briefly and now nothing for a long time. Local TV station that broadcasts in VHF says omnidirectional is notorious for "reflecting" signal. Recommended I ditch omnidirectional for traditional rooftop antenna. Is there anything I can do with what I have to catch the VHF signals. I am about 15 miles from the local station. It does have a booster and we have tried other boosters as well. Turned the antenna. Still no luck. Any suggestions are appreciated.

It is also possible that their is a malfunction on the VHF side of your built in amplifier. Please attempt to move your MS-2000 horizontally 10 feet in either direction and attempt to acquire signal again. If you have a long cable run over 50 feet you may need a pre-amp. However, if the rest of your system checks out please send a copy of your receipt to warranty@winegard.com and they will issue you RMA number for you to use to send the antenna back to Winegard for repair.

Strong Signal KPLC NBC 7-1
Network: NBC
[x]
Channel: 7 (RF 7)
Receive Power: -45 dBm
Compass Direction to Tower: ENE (58)
Gain/Loss Map

The above info is from the DTV Reception Map. We live in a detached home with over 1 acre and neighbors have the same. There are a lot of oak trees around but the antenna is mounted to the chimney above the second floor. 2524 Bayou Cir 70665. I do not think it is a problem with the VHF part of the antenna only because I bought the exact same one for my mother and we have the same problem with hers (she does live about 45 miles southeast of us). My brother, who lives only minutes from me, has a typical, very large antenna in his attic with a booster and is able to catch the local NBC station. I will try to remove the booster that came with the antenna and see what happens (although, pretty sure I did this already) (we also did try other boosters besides the one that came with it). The preamp may be what we need to try. Let me know if you have any other suggestions. Thanks so much for all the info!!!!

Okay, we can get 12.1, but we cannot get 10.1. The rabbit ears and loop indoor antenna also did not pick up 7.1, which is the main one I need to catch, nor did it get 10.1, but it did get the other channels that we get with the "UFO." The antenna is only currently going to one tv, so we do not have a distribution system in the house. I didn't understand your last statement about "Mr. Winegard may know something about bad preamps in these antennas." Are you saying there might be a problem with the antenna? Thanks so much antenna vision for your help with this. I really appreciate it.

Their is nothing historically wrong with the pre-amps in the MS-2000. However, pre-amps in antennas do sometimes go bad due to power surges, lightning, age, etc. Because you are able to pull in 12.1 this would not be the case. Try to get your antenna up higher, with fewer obstructions or try a larger antenna. It looks like channel 7 needs a stronger antenna from your location.

Well, I gave up. We bought a regular directional antenna and now get all the channels. We did have to play with the direction it was pointing, but now it picks up everything. I wanted to thank you both for all of your help. I appreciate it so much!!!!!
