Recommend Antenna for 42122

Postby rgb30b » Sun Aug 16, 2009 11:33 am

Hello,
I'm looking for recommendations regarding an outdoor antenna to receive OTA channels from Nashville TN. Seems the more I research, the more confusing it is, although I have been looking at the Winegard 8200u. The attached info is from TV Fool based on a 30' elevation (tower). The channels I hope to receive have the same azimuth, 212*. Thankx in advance for any suggestions.....

Good morning rgb30b -

We would recommend the HD8200U probably with a Winegard AP8700 pre-amp. Mount the antenna as high as you can and away from obstructions. Preferrably you would get the antenna up to 40-50 feet.

That should do the trick.

You have a lot of stations that are pretty close to your location that you should be able to receive with little or no problems and probably wouldn't even need a pre amplifier - if you kept your cable runs short and your splitters to a minimum.

The one thing you do not see is the fact that it would be to your benefit to use a good antenna rotor.

Speaking from personal experience, I can tell you that you can expect to get signals from many of the stations in your report, as long as you are willing to turn the antenna to receive them.

A cheap $70 digital antenna rotor from Lowes (RCA) would work wonders for your reception problems.

With basically flat terrain, you can expect to get stations from as far away as WNAB with little effort with the right set up.

WTVF is going to be a tough one to get, and if it was not for that one station, you could substitute the 8200U for the 7698P Antenna and have a much smaller TV antenna that did the same job!
