I had a recent lightning strike that appears to have knocked out much of my previous good antenna reception. The channels I now get are a lot less strong and the others are not strong enough to receive at all. I have a Winegard AP-8780 Chromstar 2000 UHF/VHF Pre-amp and am not sure if the power supply or pre-amp are defective.
I unplugged both cables from the power supply and put a meter on each side of the PS-9370 using the method involving inserting a paper clip in the coaxial centers. Both the 'to preamp' and 'to tv' sides read 15.5 volts. When I plug the antenna into the 'to preamp' side the red led light stays on. However, when I also plug the other cable back into the 'to tv' side the red led light goes off. If I unplug the power supply from the electric wall socket the tv signal strength does significantly change versus leaving it plugged in.
Can you tell me what else I should be looking at or what is defective? Is the pre-amp bad?
Thanks.
