Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978We unfortunately lost a few posts over the weekend due to some database updates by our host. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978Info from NYC WPIX :
"Over the long-term, all New York City broadcasters are looking at revising antenna locations on the current tower to remove the old analog antennas and make better use of the tower space and height." Now why wasn't this required BEFORE the transition? This could make all the difference in reception in areas like mine which have always had good analog reception but are now apparently left in the dark. And I guess I've stumped the engineers at Winegard. Who would have thought this "easy as buying a converter box" DTV transition would be so difficult. Great technology jd.
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978
As to what are you referring? We provided you with a recommended antenna on page 1. Moving up to the HD7697p or HD7698P is definitely a good idea in our opinion. We are unable to comment on issues you may be having with equipment manufactured by Samsung.
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978I believe that I already made a suggestion.
My advice would be for you to use a Wiengard 8200U antenna because it has the highest gain for both UHF and VHF. I would also advise that you use a Winegard AP8780 UHF VHF Pre-Amplifier ChromStar 2000 due to the fact that you don't want to over power your receiver. That amplifier will compensate for your signal loss in your wire and splitters between the antenna and the television. I would also advise that you use Quad Shield cable due to it's lower loss at X frequency and it's better shielding than regular RG 6 wire. That set up should get you a 50 mile range. A Winegard AP 8275 would probably boost it up to about 70 miles UHF. The question is how much do you want to spend and how much do you want to receive? KNP 2516 Plus you also need a antenna rotor! You are not going to get channel X when the antenna is pointed towards Channel Y
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978Thanks for all the help. I guess there is no guaranteeing any antenna for my situation.

Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978Here's another question:
Since I am probably getting most of my signal by diffraction/reflection and I am getting DTV VHF ch 7, 11, and 13 pretty good, I'm thinking that if I added a better UHF only antenna and a coupler I could improve my UHF reception. If I do this, which would be a better choice, something like a HD8800 or a yagi like the PR9022? and what sort of amp would go with this? Thanks again, jd
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978Have you upgraded to something new or are you still in the same situation? The HD9095 is the largest UHF only antenna we manufacture and is probably what you will need plus the appropriate pre-amp below.
UHF Antenna Pre-Amplifiers 1 Television, Over 75 Foot Cable Run: Winegard HDP269 4 Way Split, Over 75 Foot Cable Run: Winegard AP4700
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978In response to Winegard, I have done nothing with my antenna so far but am going to begin "experimenting" soon.
Regarding your recommendations, I suggested the use of a PR9022 since it has higher UHF gain than your previous recommendations of the HD7697P or HD7698P . Now you recommend the HD9095 which is larger than the PR9022 and has just a bit more gain. So I'm confused, which is more important, gain or size? Of course, I might find that after spending a lot of money and getting signal strength to 90-100% on all the channels I want, I'll still be ruined by the air traffic from Newark, NYC, Philadelphia, and of course, the helicopters, corporate jets and private airplanes from Somerset airport. They all seem to fly right over our house. Remember folks, just get a DTV converter box and you'll be all set. jd
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978Here's an installation question:
When running cable on the mast, is it better to use standoffs, or are zip-ties the way to go? (Most antenna installation guides say to use standoffs, but I've seen a lot of pictures of peoples antenna set ups where they used zip-ties.) Thanks in advance, jd
