AP-8700 U/V Pre Amplifier power injector

Postby fredmo » Thu Jul 09, 2009 11:33 am

I recently added the ap-8700 to my antenna. The item appears to be working fine and has strengthened the signal on some of my weaker channels.

The power injector, however, is quite hot to the touch. Is this normal? Will this cause the life of this piece to be shortened?

Hot is not good.

Call the company you bought it from for a return ship authorization.

I did not think that hot was good, but is it normal for this piece?

There is no sense in me returning it, if a new one behaves the same.

Good morning fredmo -

It is hard for me to say exactly without feeling it myself. The power injector will be warm to the touch because there is a voltage regulator inside it. This will not shorten the life of the unit. However, if it is 'HOT', more than what you feel is safe, I would call for a return authorization.

Hi,

I have an AP-8275 and it's power supply and power injector do feel warmer than I would have expected. They seem to be warmer than the Radio Shack (Antennacraft) pre-amp setup it replaced. Do you have any temperature specs to help me determine if they are running too hot? I was a bit disappointed to see they are made in China, if they said made in USA I probably wouldn't be concerned.

I would have the same answer for you JD. The power injector will be warm to the touch, warmer than your old model. This will not shorten the life of the unit and if the heat gets to a dangerous level it should shut itself off. However, if it is 'HOT', more than what you feel is safe, I would call for a return authorization.

I've called down to engineering to have a temperature test done so I can tell you the normal temp, but it may be a few days before we have that done. Your more than likely fine, but it is best you use your own judgement.

Winegard, I'll be interested in seeing those temps. However, I believe you are right, as it is just "warm", though warmer than the RS unit.

Thanks,

jd
