Two antennas, same direction...where to put the coupler?

Postby dbo562 » Tue Jun 30, 2009 10:07 pm

I am in the process of installing a second HD8200u antenna. They both will be pointing in the same direction (5' apart vertically, on the same mast). I also currently have an AP8700 pre-amp. I guess the main question is, where do I put the pre-amp? Between the coupler (CC7870) below the highest antenna? Or should I mount the pre-amp after the antennas and coupler with the passive port on the coupler going to the highest antenna? Any other information regarding multiple antenna would be appreciated. My problem currently is not being able to maintain enough signal strength for reliable reception.

Putting up two antenna's will not increase your reception, more than likely one antenna will interfere with the other..

I would recommend that you use a antenna rotor and a good quality pre amp and one antenna.

Good morning dbo562 -

The preamplifier goes after the CC-7870 coupler which will combine the 2 signals. Also the downlead cable from each antenna going to the CC-7870 coupler have to be same length +/- 1/8” of each other so the signal will be in phase with each other going into the coupler.

If you want to increase you gain, put your antenna 25 or 50 feet higher than it presently is.

Height = gain.
