Signal Dropout

Postby solomon2 » Mon May 17, 2010 10:19 pm

Hi, I have a HD7697P antenna installed and the signal drops out and the picture breaks up when there are strong winds but only the UHF stations are effected. This problem has continued intermittently since it was first installed. (BTW, the antenna is securely mounted but is buffeted by the wind). I also have three splitters on the system and the dropouts occur on all the sets. I had an old analog antenna (probably >20 years old) that worked great but the down lead came out of the balun and the antenna is over 30' up so I had an antenna company put in a new antenna. They are going to come and look to see if they can find the problem but they said that they've never heard of this problem before. Anyone have any ideas. I'd like to give them some suggestions since the problem is intermittent and I know they are going to tell me that there's no problem that they can find.
Thanks,
Ken

It sounds like the problem could be with the connector at the end of the cable attached to the HD7697P antenna. Also have the installer check to make sure that the UHF phasing lines coming from the front of the antenna are at least ¼” from the side of the antenna boom and not loose so they could touch the boom when the wind blows. Have the installer make sure that the 2 center clips in the cartridge board/housing are making good contact with the UHF phasing lines. The installer can reach up into the top of the antenna housing and pull the 2 center phasing lines down approximately ¼” to make sure the clips make contact when he snaps the bottom of the housing back onto the antenna.
