HD7084p antenna trimming

Postby warrenandmaida » Fri Feb 05, 2010 9:57 am

I have a Winegard HD7084P antenna installed in a small attic and it works great. With the conversion to DTV the lowest VHF channel transmitted in my area in channel 7.1 (freq. assignment 7). What antenna elements can be safely removed to make the antenna smaller and make more room in the attic? Thank you very much for any info you can provide.

You can cut the long side (half) of the elements that are over 20” long from the rivet to the end of the element off at the end of the reinforcing cap. For the reflector element which is the very last long one, cut each half to 19” from the rivet.

Thanks for the response. I have a follow-up question. What about shorting the length of the boom? For example, making the forward most element over 20" long the reflecting element (19") and cutting off the boom aft of that?

Thank you again for your help.

I did that last summer to an older CH7082 that I was re-locating for a friend mainly because it wouldn't fit in my Saturn Vue any other way and I didn't want to risk breaking anything. I knew I'd get by with it because the only VHF channel we were needing was channel 8, so we didn't need the LO-VHF elements. I told him we made a HD7696 out of it!
